Great thinking on last weeks question!

Thank you to all those you have posted a comment on our blog last week. It's great to see comments from all over the world including Canada and Singapore! Well done to Michael, Katelyn and Rose who have managed to work out how organise an account and post a comment!

In summary, it would seem that our bloggers agree that while technology can be misused it is not the technology itself that makes us lazy, its the way that we choose to use. I am pleased to be able to say that in the case of Room 13, technology is being used as an excellent learning tool and it is by no means making us lazy!!

Our question this week is linked to our technology unit on Toys and Games.

Should all toys be 'educational'?

Have a look at this quick video link to get some ideas about how 'educational toys' might be defined.

Looking forward to seeing more of your thinking and debating this week!

Welcome to our blog!

It has been in the pipeline for some time now and I am proud to launch it for Term4!
The purpose of this blog will be to share and celebrate our work, as well as some homework tasks. From time to time I will post links to some websites that you might find useful.
I was so impressed and inspired by the research and thinking presented in last terms debate on Genetically Modified food that I would like to extend that opportunity and give you the chance to consider and comment on current issues through this blog.
To start off the MBS13-09Blog, watch the video link below
"The Technology of Mind Control",
then consider and comment on this question;

Does Technology Makes Us Lazy?
Keeping it REAL: How to make a REAL argument

A few pointers/reminders of how to structure your argument to be convincing and credible...
Keeping it REAL: How to make a REAL argument
• Start with a Reason (for agreeing/disagreeing with the statement)
• Follow this with an Example that underlines the point.
• Provide Analysis which supports the point.
• And Link it back to the statement to keep it relevant.

An example of a REAL argument
(Reason) 'We are abolishing school uniform because we feel that it is unfair. (Example) Uniforms can cost anywhere between £50 and £100 per pupil. (Analysis)This is unfair because it forces poor families into buying expensive but shoddily made uniforms. Often parents will need to replace the uniform on a yearly basis due to general wear and tear or growth spurts, and this problem is worsened if the family has numerous children. (Link) - 'With this in mind, we think the fairest solution would be to abolish uniform.'

Use this to help you write you response to our question of the week;
Does technology make us lazy?
